designevents.guide

designevents.guide is a website to discover all announced UX design, motion design, graphic design and creativity events taking place this year.

The first iteration of this website was launched on 3 January 2023 and built in the week between Christmas and New Year 2022. For years I had the idea of transforming the data shown on Neon Moiré into a calendar layout that would work on desktop and mobile.

It took a while to get the layout and typography right before I could start programming the site. The site is built in plain HTML and CSS with a little bit of Javascript. To get the hover effects to work over multiple columns.
The style of the calendar is Swiss typography with a bit of Vogue. For the basic font, I decided to use standard system fonts to keep the site loading fast. For the calendar dates I used Didot. Little did I know that Didot is not a standard Windows font.

Over the course of the year the colour of the numbers changed from black to light grey, on the advice of Oliver Schöndorfer.

At the beginning of 2024 I added city pages, starting with Amsterdam and Berlin.
